In 1999, Roux Crew, a multipurpose dog behavior center, had a banner year in herding. Roux Crew dogs earned a total of 23 AKC titles, 28 AHBA titles, and 11 ASCA titles in herding. Five different herding breeds earned titles on three types of stock (cattle, sheep & ducks), from test to advanced levels in trial.
Using a method that combines the dog's natural herding
ability with a behavioral approach tailored to each dog, a 90% qualification rate at both the test and trial level was achieved in '99.
Roux Crew enabled 11 Border Collies to be eligible for their Versatility awards in '99 while earning 9 High in Trials and Reserve High in Trials. Roux Crew dogs earned Reserve High in Trial honors at the Cardigan Welsh Corgi National Specialty and both High in Trial and Reserve High in Trial at the Australian Shepherd Association National Specialty.
The new millennium has brought success as well, with Beardies, Pulis, Corgis, Aussies, Rotties, Shelties and Border Collies representing the Roux Crew gathering 48 titles in AHBA, ASCA and AKC trials including the only Pulis to receive a PT in 2000.
In 2001, the Crew was off and running again, with the addition of GSD's, Smooth Collies, Bouviers and Belgian Terverens to the program. Twenty three HIT's and RHIT's were earned during that year, including wins at the Rottie National Specialty, Cardigan Corgi National Specialty, Pembroke Corgi National Specialty, and the Beardie National Specialty.
In 2002, Fuse made an impact in USBCHA and the students took up the slack by going RHIT in Dallas on sheep and HIT and 2 RHIT's in Houston during the spring. Roux Crew dogs returned to the Cardigan Corgi National Specialty and went HIT and RHIT both days in ducks. It was our pleasure to train the High in Trial winner (all three days) at the German Shepherd National Specialty. Two of our students went to the Cowboy Classic with their Bouviers and won the prestigious High Combined Score Belt Buckle for Started dogs.
In 2003 the hunt for a new location began in earnest and trialing was put on hold. However, several students made the grade by going HIT in LA and TX as well as making a major splash at the "Mudfest" in Fredricksburg.
2004 proved that students can compete in major stock shows with one of our own doing well at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Every trial had students winning blues and getting titles in AHBA, ASCA, and AKC beating out other trainers.
The list of new students is growing for the spring shows. Several promising dogs and handlers will be making their debuts in several venues as well as more experienced students moving into advanced classes.
